How do I install Pause?

Install Pause from the Shopify App Store. Once installed, open the app from your Shopify admin, create a goal describing what you want to learn, and Pause handles the rest. The feedback widget appears on your storefront automatically.

Does Pause slow down my store?

No. The Pause script loads asynchronously after your page content (~12 KB gzipped) and does not block rendering. Your storefront's Time to Interactive is unaffected.

What triggers a question to appear?

Pause tunes timing per surface and per goal. Cart pages fire faster; product and collection pages wait for engagement (scrolling, mouse movement, active tab). Content pages like blogs and search never auto-open — shoppers can still tap the dot if they want to. A separate exit-intent bubble appears when a shopper signals they're about to leave. Post-purchase runs via the Shopify thank-you and order-status extensions. Post-delivery runs as an email three days after fulfillment. You don't configure any of it — Pause derives triggers from your goal.

Do shoppers have to answer?

No. The widget is a small dot in the corner. When a question fits the moment, a compact bubble opens beside it with chip options or a one-line input — the shopper can tap a chip, type a short answer, or dismiss. Dismissing (× button, click outside, or Escape) silences the auto-open bubble for the rest of the tab session; the dot stays there if they change their mind. Responding is always voluntary.

Can I offer discount codes as incentives?

Yes — on the Pro plan. Attach a Shopify discount code to a goal, and Pause will reveal it as a thank-you when a shopper answers at cart exit-intent, at product-page exit-intent, or via the post-delivery feedback email. These are the moments where a reward is genuinely salvaging a lost sale or thanking a delivered customer; on other moments (e.g. the thank-you page after checkout) Pause deliberately doesn't show a code, since the sale is already done. You create the discount in Shopify and just paste the code into Pause.

What happens to voice responses?

Voice responses are transcribed to text and then analyzed the same way as text responses. The audio is processed by OpenAI Whisper and is not retained long-term.

How does Pause group responses into insights?

Pause uses AI to classify each response into a theme (e.g., "shipping cost concerns" or "product quality praise"). Themes are created and updated automatically as responses come in. You see response counts per theme and sample quotes.

Can I use Pause on a non-Shopify store?

Not currently. Pause is built as a Shopify app and requires a Shopify store to function.

What data does Pause collect from my customers?

Browsing signals (dwell time, scroll depth, page URL, device type) and voluntary feedback responses. No personal data, cookies, or cross-site tracking. See our Privacy Policy for full details.

How do I cancel?

Uninstall Pause from your Shopify admin at any time. If you're on a paid plan, billing stops at the end of the current period. Your data is deleted within 30 days.
